Otira Valley Track

Bridge Replacement - Arthurs Pass, NZ

The original bridge comprised of essentially a single plank with a wire guide rail one side spanning between two large river boulders relatively high above the mountain stream below. It was decided that it was time for a replacement so a new robust steel framed bridge was designed with barriers on both sides. This was prefabricated off-site to be air-lifted via helicopter to location. Installation was simple with construction of a new concrete plinth / steps at one end and existing boulders at the other. Nous Production produced the drawings for the new design.

Hooker HUT

Relocation / Upgrade - Hooker Valley, Aoraki/Mount Cook, NZ

From its early existence in 1910, this hut has endured various moves to new locations, being struck by an avalanche and a washout. Until in 2015, it was decided to dismantle it altogether and plan for a new site. The hut was carefully de-constructed and stored off-site from that time until a design for its new location and foundations was completed in 2020. A new timber framed foundation / subfloor / deck was constructed on which the hut carcass was meticulously re-assembled and fixed to. The interiors were kept in-tact including the original T&G flooring which was overlaid on the new floor diaphragm - to retain its historic integrity. For practical reasons and longevity it was re-clad with a modern metal system which should see it endure many years and generations into the future.

Guide Dogs of America

Visitor and Information Centre - San Diego, CA

This project presented complex restraints, therefore precise modelling of roof steelwork was required to determine the best fit within the complex ceiling / roof geometry. Revit Structure was used to model all structural elements in conjunction with Rhino files from the Architect.

Pines waste water treatment plant

Burnham, Canterbury

As part of a larger project team, Blair was the CAD discipline lead for the civil, structural, mechanical and electrical detailed drawings for the inlet works, bioreactors, aeration, clarifiers, screens handling and sludge drying. Drawings were delivered from seven offices using ProjectWise DMS and required clear communication and co-ordination throughout the project lifecycle.
dudley pool

Rangiora, Canterbury

Blair lead the CAD team for this aquatic centre comprising a 25x8m lane pool, a 20x6m learn to swim pool, a free-form leisure and spa pool. Blair co-ordinated the MWH drawings of civil, structural, HVAC, electrical and drainage components. The structure comprised of three chord space frame truss system, masonry block walls, insitu concrete and steel, and concrete composite floor system. He liaised closely with the architect team and their documentation throughout the project.
Kharikola Monastery

Nepal

Nous Production assisted with providing structural drawings and a visualisation model for re-building the kitchen and dining hall which was destroyed in the Nepal earthquake of 2015. Due to the remoteness of the location in the Solukhumbu Valley, a Christchurch team devised the basis of construction around stone filled gabion block baskets. This enabled local volunteers to assist in construction without the need for heavy machinery or materials.
Parkview Offices

London, UK

A new 6 floor office building situated in West London, consisting of reinforced concrete ground and first floors. The remaining floors above were a composite floor system utilising a parallel steel beam approach with lightweight metal decking. Due to the size of the building, various aspects were completed by different technicians throughout the company. Blair was primarily involved with the general arrangement drawings, steel work and metal deck detailing from levels 1-6. Close co-ordination was required within offices, between the Architect, Building Services Consultants and the Contractor.
Waste water treatment plant

Hastings, NZ

Blair led the CAD team for this multi-discipline drafting project that included constructing two 37m dia trickling filters, feed and recycle pump stations, septage receiving station and other associated works to upgrade the existing treatment plant.
